Werder Bremen have begun talks with Southampton to sign Damion Downs on loan for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, according to Bild. Having joined the Championship club from 1. FC Köln for €8m in July, Downs has struggled to score and is considering a return to the Bundesliga.

The interest from Bremen comes as their current strikers, including Keke Topp and Victor Boniface, have yet to score in the league. Downs is keen to improve his chances of playing for the United States in the World Cup year.
