Shortly before kickoff in their Tuesday evening Pokal fixture, SC Freiburg received rough news that their player Johan Manzambi will be suspended for the next three Bundesliga matches. The DFB sports court confirmed a harsh penalty for the young player regarding his second red card of the season.

Freiburg disagreed with the decision as Manzambi was given a red card after a controversial VAR review against Bremen. SCF's head coach Julian Schuster will also be absent from the next match due to his fourth yellow card of the season.
