Back in 2022, Barcelona's decision to spend €45 million on a 34-year-old Robert Lewandowski raised eyebrows. However, this decision has proven to be fully justified, with the Polish international scoring 109 goals in 158 appearances since his debut season in 2022-23.

Part of that transfer deal included a clause that required Barcelona to pay Bayern Munich an additional €2.5 million if Lewandowski scored 25 La Liga goals in his first season (2022-23). With Lewandowski sitting at 23 goals and two matches remaining, Barcelona asked him to refrain from scoring further as they had already secured the title and wanted to avoid the additional payment to Bayern.
