As reported by HLN, Gent has joined a number of clubs in the Belgian Challenger Pro League calling for the removal of the 'protected status' of the four ‘reserve’ sides. The current rule only allows these second-tier teams, which are youth outfits for Pro League sides, to be relegated when another youth team is set for promotion.

The interesting twist in Gent’s stance is that they are a Pro League side that would actually benefit from the current rules. Jong Gent was recently promoted to the second tier and has been performing well. Yet, they also demand the end of plans to expand the Pro League to 18 teams and to remove play-offs, changes expected to face resistance from clubs looking to reach the top division.
