According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Manchester City have suffered a significant setback in their efforts to bring Julian Alvarez back to the club, as the Argentine World Cup winner has no intentions of returning. He doesn’t want to be stuck behind Erling Haaland in their attacking pecking order again.

Alvarez had an impressive rise at River Plate, after which Manchester City secured his services in 2022. However, his two-year-long stint at the club didn't bring complete satisfaction under Pep Guardiola’s management as Haaland was preferred at more prominent spots.
